If you have access to Oracle Database, then you probably already have access to Oracle Machine Learning (OML). In this hands-on workshop based on Autonomous Database, you will learn how to use OML to build a machine learning model and integrate it into an APEX application. The workshop is suitable for Oracle data professionals looking to build their first machine learning model, and data scientists who want the simplest way to apply machine learning to enterprise data.

One of the relatively new features available with Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse is Oracle Machine Learning Notebook. The description on Oracle's tutorial site states: "An Oracle Machine Learning notebook is a web-based interface for data analysis, data discovery, and data visualization." If you are familiar with Jupyter Notebooks (often Python based) then you may know and appreciate the Wiki like combination or markdown text and code snippets that are ideal for data lab'explorations' of data sets and machine learning models. I am quite a fan myself. Especially wrangling data, juggling with Pandas Data Frames and visualizing data with Plotly is good fun and it is quite easy to accomplish meaningful and advanced results.

Ever notice in soccer when a midfielder runs his or her legs off to get the ball to a striker who then taps it into the net and gets all the glory? Charlie Berger wants to help database administrators--the indefatigable midfielders of enterprise IT--get a little of that data science glory for themselves. They can do that, Berger says, by first realizing how important their data wrangling abilities and their SQL knowledge can be to the data science process. Then they can take it a step further by learning the basic data science practices and understanding how to wield the ample library of machine learning algorithms available to them right in the Oracle Database. "In my travels, I've discovered that it's easier to take the person who knows and likes SQL and teach them how to begin doing real machine learning in the database, than it is to take folks who do Python or R, and who know algorithms, and teach them to do machine learning inside the database," although both can benefit from the practice, says Berger, a senior director of product management for machine learning, AI and Cognitive Analytics at Oracle.

This presentation highlights the new machine learning algorithms, features, functions and "differentiators" added to Oracle Database Release 12.2 and Oracle SQL Developer4.2. These features and functioned are "packaged" as part of the Oracle Advanced Analytics Database Option and Oracle Data Miner workflow UI on-premise and in the Oracle Database Cloud Service High and Extreme Editions.
